Gully erosion in Gboko : Foundation appeals for intervention from Ecological fund
By Bridget Ikyado
The President of Ior Gboko Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization with bias in humanitarian Services, Dr. Jimmy Ajim has appealed to the ecological projects office to urgently intervene in tackling the erosion malaise affecting so many areas of Gboko, Benue state.
Dr. Ajim made the call when Environmental and Engineering consultants at the behest of the foundation visited the various sites to inspect, survey and measure the extent of damage erosion has caused in the town of over 1m inhabitants for onward transmission to the Ecological Projects Office.
It would be recalled that the
Ior Gboko Foundation had raised alarm over gully erosion in Gboko LGA of Benue State by writing through the office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) Sen. George Akume, where it urged swift response by the Ecological Projects Office.
The President of the foundation who commended the SGF and Ecological Project office for previous interventions nationwide appealed to the host community to ensure they support and cooperate with the Ecological Funds Office and contractor when the contract is eventually awarded in due course.
The foundation President donated an undisclosed amount of money to the local guides who took the consultants round various sites as a way of encouraging community participation.
The Prime objective of the ecological project office is to have a pool of funds devoted to mitigating the impact of ecological problems across the country.
