…..Says aim is to develop KML Strategy for Nigeria Health Sector and Nutrition space
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has organised a 3-day workshop aimed at creating a platform to develop a knowledge Management and Learning (KML) Strategy for Nigeria’s Health Sector, Nutrition space.
This, is part of the effort of the Ministry to enhance the quality of lives of the citizenry.
In a statement signed by Ado Bako, AD (Information and Public Relations), it was disclosed that the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, in his key note address at the event held recently in Keffi, Nasarawa state, stated that the move is part of the efforts to strengthen the Nutrition Department and institutionalize Knowledge Management Learning (KML), explaining that key officers from the Ministry, key Agencies and other key ministries implementing the Accelerating Nutrition related Results in Nigeria (AIRIN) project, participated in a week-long training in August 2024.
Represented by the Director/Head of Nutrition Department of the Ministry, Mrs. Ladidi Bako-Aiyegbusi, the Minister pointed out that the key outcome of the training resulted to the development of an outline for the Knowledge Management and Learning (KML) Strategy.
He explained that the 3-day workshop will bring together Stakeholders from both the National and Sub-national levels to raise awareness about the significance of KML and guide them through the process, adding that the workshop will also be guided by the outline facilitated by KML to finalise and complete the strategy document focusing on KML objectives.
According to him, the objective of the project are: Articulate systems for sharing Nutrition related information and best practices across all health sector levels; foster the systematic collection and documentation of Nutrition, outcomes and interventions, innovations for informed decision; Improve access to up – to- date nutrition knowledge for health professionals in managing and applying nutrition knowledge effectively; Identify pathways to promote the use of document knowledge and evidence in designing and implementing nutrition policies and programmes.
The Minister, further highlighted that the proposed steps for achieving the objectives include: Developing digital and physical platforms for knowledge access; Building Evidence-Based Policy and Research Collaboration; Institutionalising KML; Systems for Information sharing and improving access of knowledge; Strengthen training programmes and professional development; Promoting peer learning & E-Learning solutions and Institutionalisation of Knowledge Management Practices in the Federal Ministry of Health among others.
Professor Pate, announced that several intervention programmes are undertaken by the Ministry not only to bring about economic growth and empowerment but to enhance the quality of lives of the citizenry, train and equip staff for effective performance that would impact the society positively.
While thanking the Federal Government, other Ministries, Health partners and Stakeholders for creating enabling environment for nutrition and other health related activities to thrive, the Minister, enjoined all participants to actively take part in the development of KML Strategy.
