
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, YD Ahmed, has been awarded the 2024 Icon of Human Rights, by the Human Rights Writer’s Association of Nigeria (HURIWA).
The events took place at the National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
A statement signed by Eddy Megwa, Director, Information and Public Relations, revealed that, the National Coordinator of HURIWA, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, extolled the leadership qualities of General Ahmed especially with regards to the recent expansion of the Scheme and also the NYSC’s resistance against the mobilization of unqualified graduates for national service.
He also described General Ahmed as a good ambassador, while he equally urged him to strive more in order to take the Scheme to greater heights.
Comrade Onwubiko also solicited for more public support for the NYSC through well-meaning individuals, non-governmental organisations among others.
In his response, the Director General appreciated the association for the honour bestowed on him while he promised to redouble his efforts in the discharge of his statutory responsibilities to the Scheme.
