Says 1,618 civil servants were detected with fake letters of employment
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation(HCSF), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan has enjoined staffs and Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the government to ensure that they are fully digitalised in their operations and services by 2025.
Dr Yemi-Esan, revealed on Wednesday at a media parley to mark 2024 Civil Service Week in Abuja, that her Office has been working closely with Galaxy Bone to ensure the provision of broadband services to all MDAs.
In a statement signed by M.A Ahmed, Director Communication, Dr Yemi-Esan disclosed that the Office has gone digital, and that mails and proposals from individuals and corporate bodies are sent to her Office via designated email address.
Apart from enhancing efficient service delivery, Yemi-Esan explained that the digitalisation of MDAs would curb the incessant leakage of sensitive documents to the public.
To achieve this laudable objective, the Head of the Civil Service affirmed that her Office has been meeting quarterly with Permanent Secretaries in various MDAs to ensure the actualisation of this goal.
According to her, “every Permanent Secretary is responsible for the digitalisation of their MDAs.”
She further revealed that some of the MDAs are in the fore-front of meeting the deadline in view of the level they have attained in ensuring digitalisation.
According to her, “The digitalisation of the workforce is another reference point in ongoing transformation, as this is cardinal in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Digitalised and work flow processes are now transacted digitally.
“All official correspondences in the form of mails, internal and external circulars are processed electronically.
“The Office of the Head of the Civil does not collect physical mails from outside.
“Also, all the ministries are not left behind as they have been directed to ensure full digitalisation by 2025.”
Yemi-Esan further revealed that 69,308 civil servants are currently on the payroll of the Federal Government, after thorough verification by the Committee set up to carry the exercise.
Commenting further on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System(IPPIS), she stated that 1,618 civil servants were detected with fake letters of employment or were illegally employed.
She said that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes Commission(ICPC) had begun investigation of over 3,600 individuals who did not present themselves for verification.
As part of measures to curb endemic corruption in the Federal Civil Service, she said her Office had directed MDAs to embark on the head count of all staff on their payroll.
She noted that this initiative has begun to yield fruit as so many staff, particularly from Agencies of Government who had relocated abroad or had gone for further studies abroad without formal approval had been exposed.
