In an unflagging effort to reform the Federal Civil Service, improve efficiency and excellent delivery across board, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, has enjoined the Civil Service Commission to improve on its performance.
Dr Yemi-Esan gave this charge in Abuja, during a courtesy visit by members of the Federal Capital Territory Civil Service Commission (FCT-CSC), led by its pioneer Chairman, Engineer Emeka Eze, and his team of Honourable Commissioners to uphold the tenets of meritocracy, integrity, and public trust in discharging their duties towards building the nation.
A statement signed by M.A Ahmed Director Communication, disclosed that the Head of Service enjoined the Commission to see their appointment as a call to service.
“I want you to know that Nigerians are very eager and keen to see changes immediately. My advice is that you need to hit the ground running, because of the enormous work that lies ahead”. She added that those in FCT are the bedrock of development.
“As pioneers of FCT Civil Service Commission, you need to think outside the box by looking at the deliverables as pioneers, because it is the foundation you lay today that others will follow, let us be courageous to do things differently and correctly, because we cannot get the Nigeria we need without proper structure”. She stated.
“I will advise that, you start your selection process for recruitment into the service on a digital platform. In performing your responsibilities, make sure the best brains are brought into the service, because the foundation matters a lot.
“It is important for us to do things differently. If we understand employment and know what is required, then we’ll do things differently”. She opined.
She called on the Commission to take a leaf from the Indian Civil Service and Singaporean Civil Service and replicate some of the transformative reforms that is driving impactful changes in their countries.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Eze, said that as leader, the visit was part of continuing engagement with critical stakeholders whose input, guidance, collaboration, and advice are needed for a smooth take off and operations.
He then applauded the HoCSF for initiating series of reforms that has shaped the face of the Federal Civil Service for optimal performance and excellent delivery across board.
“We have therefore come to benefit from your fountain of wisdom, motherly guidance, and advice on how we can establish the FCT-CSC as a model Civil Service Commission in Nigeria, Africa and beyond
“We are not oblivious of the great impacts, initiatives such as the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025(FCSSIP-25), Standard Operating Procedures and e-governance has made in service delivery.
The Nigerian civil service has progressively gone digital with the deployment of e-governance architecture leading to seamless, paperless, effective, timesaving and highly productive communication in the service” he stated.
He further stated that given the impact of technology in driving a 21st century civil service, the FCT-CSC has concluded the adoption of a full-fledged ICT Department as one of the professional departments in the Commission.
