
BENUE VARSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL MEDICAL OUTREACH TO ABOUT 200 INMATES

Health Officials from the Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi, have offered a one day free medical outreach services to about two hundred inmates at the Maximum Security Custodial Center Makurdi.
Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), who also doubles as Chairman Medical Outreach of the hospital, Professor Agbir Terkura, who represented the CMD BSUTH, Dr Stephen Hwande,disclosed this to newsmen when he led other team members with medical and food items to the center as part of Governor Alia Health Care Initiative.
Presenting the items to the State comptroller of correction, Mary Oche, for examination before it was taken into the custodial center for the outreach, says the gesture is part of their corporate social responsibility to the inmates as well residents living around the neighborhood.
While he stated that they are here to provide health care with regard to Common illnesses such as intestinal worm infections, skin infection, cough and others like strong cough. Malaria, observed that the ones they are not able handled would be referred to appropriate center.
“We are here to take care of their medical needs, the ones we will not be able to take care of will be identified and referred to the appropriate center, so that is why we are here.”
“In a situation like this, we have common illnesses like intestinal worm infection, skin infection, carrier diseases, and we are able to identify cough and chronic cough diseases, then we will send them to the appropriate centers.”
The Comptroller of Correction Benue State Command, Mary Oche, commended the chief medical director of the hospital and his team for reaching out to the inmates at this difficult times, and appeal to other spirited and corporate bodies for assistance in reforming the inmates.
While the comptroller thanked governor Hyacinth Alia led administration for providing them a permanent site, a transformer among others after forty years.
In her words, “I am so much favoured, is a thing of pleasure that is why am here myself to see that everything goes on well without any hitches, in terms of illnesses, you cannot rule out just like what the professor have said, things like rashes, malaria and others.” this will also help them to check their state of health.
She however welcome the gesture, saying it is an act of humanity, wi further demonstrate the love for the people.
